Transfer Your Contacts From Android to iPhone

Use Your SIM Card

If you are only interested in moving your contacts, you can do so by using your SIM card. Since you can store address book data on an Android SIM card, you can back up your contacts there and move them to your iPhone. The Sim cards must be the same size in both devices. All iPhones beginning with iPhone 5 use Nano SIMs.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your Android device, back up your address book contacts to your device’s SIM card.
  2. Remove the SIM card from your Android device.
  3. Insert the SIM card into your iPhone.
  4. On the iPhone, tap the Settings app to open it.
  5. Tap Contacts (on some older versions of the iOS, this is Mail, Contacts, Calendars).
  6. Tap Import SIM Contacts.

When the transfer is done, your contacts are on your iPhone.

Use Google

You can use the power of the cloud to keep all your data in sync. In this case, using Google is best since both Android and iPhone have good support for it. Follow these steps:

  1. On your Android device, back up your contacts to Google. The backup should happen automatically if you use your Google account on your device.
  2. With that done, add your Google account to your iPhone.
  3. When the account is set up, you may be able to enable contact syncing right away. If not, go to Settings -> Accounts & Passwords and tap your Gmail account.
  4. Move the Contacts slider to the On (green) position, and the contacts you added to your Google account will sync to your iPhone.

From now on, any change you make to your iPhone address book syncs back to your Google account. You’ll have a complete copy of your address book in two places and ready to transfer to other devices as needed.

If you prefer, you can use Yahoo to sync your contacts to the iPhone rather than using Google. The process is similar.

Use iTunes

The last method for transferring your contacts from one platform to another involves the classic way of syncing data to the iPhone: iTunes.

This method assumes that you have a computer you syncing data to, rather than just syncing with the cloud. If so, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your Android device to your computer and sync it with your address book data. If you are running Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, you can download the Windows Phone Companion from the Microsoft Store for this purpose.
  1. Once your Android data has been synced, connect your iPhone to the computer to sync it.
  2. In iTunes, click the iPhone icon in the top left corner beneath the playback controls.
  3. With the iPhone management screen open, click the Info menu in the left column.
  4. On that screen, check the box next to Sync Contacts with to enable address book syncing.
  5. In the drop-down menu, select the address book program you use.
  6. Click the button next to All Contacts.
